The Doctor is in!

This week at Playschool, our children became doctors, nurses, hygienists, receptionists, parents and patients. The classroom setting supported a reception desk, waiting room, exam rooms for medical, dental and veterinarian doctors.

Through the use of our “props” in the classroom our preschoolers recreate their experiences and knowledge about doctors. For many children they can re-experience situations, learn from others and share what they know and have experienced.

Dramatic play contributes to the development of the whole child. Its value in language, emergent literacy, social interaction, emotional well being, mathematical skills and creativity is remarkable and just plain fun. Playschool loves dramatic play!

Playschool's Library

Playschool participates in the TD Canadian Children's Book Week (Nov 15 to 21). Our letter of the week is "Bb" for books. During the month of November we are learning about people in our community and their jobs. Our local librarian has visited our school to talk about her job and shared books with us during her story time circle.

Welcome to Playschool's dramatic play library. Eliza and Gabriela are role playing librarians.

Many children come to our library to make a book selection.

Grace reads to Madeline.

Luka enjoys a comfy chair and a good book.

Check out time.

These books are going home!

The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair

Friday November 13 was a lucky day for us! We went to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair! We got there at about 9:30 in the morning. We watched the Super-Dogs perform, cows being milked and cows and horses being judged. We listened to different experts teach us about everything from farming to energy conservation; we answered questions and picked up colouring books and fridge magnets. We tasted different food and drink, we felt skins, feathers, fur and more. We smelled food and animals. We heard the sheep bleat and the cows moo. At one point we saw a nervous horse and heard it snort and whinny in a way that made us all a little bit afraid! It was a wonderful day. Have a look at some of our photos!

The Junior Room Learns About Snakes

We all touched a live snake; it felt smooth, dry and warm!!

Alisha even enjoyed holding the snake by herself.

We learned that some snakes are in danger of becoming extinct

Creating Maps

Learning about the continents is fun when you can create a map using plasticene!

The Junior Room Observe Remembrance Day

The children in the Junior Room learned about why we observe Remembrance Day. They worked as a team to create a beautiful memorial wreath out of tissue paper.

Junior Room in the Computer Lab

The Junior Room is using a fun computer game to practice finding lines oflatitude and longitude on a map.

Pumpkin Fun

You-Jin and Alisha help clean out the pumpkins.

We tasted raw pumkin and cooked pumpkin. We discovered that cooked pumpkin tastes best with a little sugar; even Yoan liked it!
