The field trip to the Hindu temple, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, was an amazing experience. The magnificent hand-carved stone building was just breathtaking! Though we saw many different statues of deities, we've learned that they are the various forms of manifestation of one supreme god, Parabrahman. We also enjoyed the heritage exhibition at the museum in the mansion.

The grades three and four are busy with the last stages of their dinosaur projects. The enthusiasm for this topic is contagious and the work is turning out well!
It has not only been a great opportunity of learning more about dinosaurs, but it has also been an excellent learning experience for the students on how to search for pertinent information and how to incorporate it into their projects.

Thank you to Sandy Cline who came in to lead the students through a stone carving class last month!
Each student started out with a roughly cut piece of stone. They have to file, shape, sand, and smooth it to look more like a bear.
The students round the stone by filing down the sharp edges.
The carvings are heated in the oven (shown on the right) so that wax may be melted on to them.
Wax being applied to the hot stone, by Sandy Cline.
Here are the 3 different stages of the carving process. First the rough cut stone, second has the edges rounded and filed and third the carving is waxed.
The students were very happy with the finished product.
